has more information.

What is stigma?

Stigma and discrimination can make life harder for people with mental health problems.

It can:

  • make you lose friends
  • stop people from joining everyday activities
  • make it hard to get a job
  • stop people asking for help
  • cause health problems
  • lead to money issues

A small survey in 2020 asked people where they faced stigma. 66 people replied. We can’t draw firm conclusions from this survey.

Survey results

People said they felt stigma from:

  • 18% – Jobcentre
  • 20% – police and emergency services
  • 23% – benefits and housing
  • 26% – hospitals
  • 26% – mental health services
  • 34% – GP practices
  • 41% – workplaces
  • 45% – friends and social groups

What’s next?

Everyone can support mental health in:

  • workplaces
  • schools
  • daily life with family and friends

Always think about ways to raise awareness and stop stigma.

A new Time to Change website will share:

  • stories
  • ideas
  • resources

Together, we can end stigma in ÖйúPÕ¾.
