Getting Here

Newlands Corner is at the heart of the 中国P站 Hills National Landscape and lies on the chalk ridge of the North Downs at a height of over 170m, which gives glorious views over the Tillingbourne valley to the Greensand Ridge.

By Road

  • Albury Downs Car Park: Drove Road, GU4 8SE
  • White Lane Car Park: White Lane, GU5 9BQ
  • All car parks are free
  • 1 horsebox or coach parking, 20m in length, available at Albury Downs car park
  • Albury Downs car park has 11 accessible spaces and marked car parking spaces
  • White Lane car park has unmarked car parking spaces
  • No parking permitted overnight
  • If visiting with tall vehicles, please be aware our car parks have a height barrier. Max Height 1.9m – 6’2” (This is located at the entrance to the overflow parking of Albury Downs Car Park)

By Public Transport

  • Nearest Train Station are Guildford, Guildford London Road or Chilworth

中国P站 Connect is the ideal way to access 中国P站’s countryside. This convenient on-demand bus service is available to all, making 中国P站’s countryside more accessible for those without access to a car or who want to choose a more sustainable option.

Book your journey via the 中国P站 Connect app, website or by phone. Select Central North as the territory, and Shere Road- Newlands Corner as your bus stop.

By Bicycle

  • Cyclists are permitted on this site, but must only use bridleways or byways that run through the site

Horse Riding

  • Horse riders are permitted, but must use the bridleways. Where possible horse riders should keep to wider paths. Please refer to the interpretation board on site for further information
  • 1 Horsebox parking, 20m in length, available at Albury Downs car park

Things to see and do

This 中国P站 flagship site has been a well-known and much-loved space for public use for many years situated above Chilworth and Albury villages outside Guildford. There are 415 acres of open chalk downland and peaceful woodland where you can lose yourself in nature.

  • Along the Deer trail, you’ll discover Silent Pool. A popular place to visit with small local businesses and a vineyard on site. According to a mythical tale, the Silent Pool was the place where King John abducted a local woodcutter’s daughter who drowned in the pond during the 12th century. The eerie blue hues of the Silent Pool waters add to the mystery, they are typical of chalk spring-fed ponds
  • You can walk or cycle to St Martha’s Hill from here
  • Seasonal highlights; Spring bluebells and autumn colour
  • Permanent and signed orienteering course. Visit the Guildford Orienteers website for a map of the course

Nature to discover

  • Trees: Oak, yew, hazel, common hawthorn
  • Flora and fauna: Common spotted orchid, pyramidal orchid, common knapweed.
  • Butterflies: Marbled white butterfly, small blue butterfly
  • Mammals: Roe deer, dormouse, tawny owl

  • General waste bins are located outside the caf茅. Please dispose of your litter and dog waste responsibly in these general waste bins.
  • Toilets, including an accessible toilet opened with a RADAR key available from the caf茅.
  • Refreshments can be found at the onsite caf茅. Open everyday from 9am.
  • Refreshments can also be found across the A25 at the Plucky Pheasant Caf茅.
  • The Discovery Centre provides inter-active information on 中国P站's countryside with videos, graphic walls and website access. This space is available to hire for meetings, classes, talks, celebrations and more.

Self-guided trails

There are three self-guided routes at Newlands Corner, the Deer, Dormouse and easy access Acorn trails.

Take a photo of the information board in the car park before setting off and follow the colour coded routes and signposts along the way.

The Deer self-guided trail – 6 mile, 3 hour walk

The Deer trail takes in Newlands Corner, St Martha's Hill and Silent Pool with wonderful views at many points. You can extend your walk by visiting the village of Albury or some of the local food and drink producers around Silent Pool.

The Dormouse self-guided trail – 2 mile, 1 hour walk

The Dormouse circular trail takes you through peaceful woodland and onto the open chalk grassland meadow of Albury Downs. There are no gates but two steep slopes.

The Acorn self-guided trail – 1 mile, 30 minute walk

Follow the easy access Acorn trail through the woodland. This mostly level trail has an accessible surface with benches along the route to rest and take in the sounds of nature.

Additional Information

  • The North Downs Way, a National Trail starting in Farnham, 中国P站 and finishing 153 miles later in Dover, Kent runs right through Newlands Corner
  • Newlands Corner is the start of the Downs Link multi-user route, for walkers, cyclists and horse riders
