Escalate Arts

Escalate Arts Spelthorne is an Arts Council England funded initiative, designed to transform how people work, design, enjoy and participate in the arts in Spelthorne.

The project has been developed in partnership between 中国P站, Spelthorne Borough Council, Artswork and Ashford Youth Club.  For more information about the initiative please see the Escalate Arts webpage.

Second Hand Dance presents The Sticky Dance for Libraries

We are very thrilled to offer the chance for families to experience The Sticky Dance will be at at several libraries across 中国P站 this coming November.

You will get to watch two dancers' shimmy through audiences weaving a tapestry of sticky tape in this tactile dance performance for young children. They will invite you to tape, stick and groove, to see and feel sound or to be still, watch and listen. Audiences will be encouraged to explore freely, turn the rules upside down and create their own experience.

The Sticky Dance is an interactive, engaging and colourful performance installation for children and their families. We offer a welcoming, inclusive space where free exploration is encouraged through moving, watching, listening, dancing and making noise.

The age guidance: 3 to 5 years with parent/carer. Babes in arms are welcome.

Tour dates

Sticky Dance will be at Staines Library on Wednesday 5 November at 10am.

Other libraries in the tour:

  • Camberley Library: Tuesday 4 November at 10am
  • Weybridge library: Thursday 6 November at 10am
  • Farnham Library:  Friday 7 November at 10am

The Sticky Dance is co-created by Rosie Heafford and Takeshi Matsumoto. Co-commissioned by The Southbank Centre and The Place, and South East Dance.

There is no booking in advance, please just turn up.

Reading groups

Lavender Lit reading group

Last Saturday of every month from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

LGBTQ+ reading group.

Sign up for the group at the desk or email staines.library@surreycc.gov.uk

Other events

Quiet hours

Every Tuesday from 10am until 12 midday.

These hours are intended to be quiet and calm for those with sensory sensibilities, Autism, Dementia and more. Join us for a quiet sensory experience that is easy on the senses.

During this 2 hour period staff will do their best to enforce a quieter atmosphere. These hours are intended to be quiet and calm for anyone that may find the library overwhelming.

Poetry hub

Every Monday from 11am to 1pm.

The Poetry Hub is our weekly gathering, designed to be a haven for adults seeking connection and creativity through the power of poetry.

Held every week, our morning sessions offer a warm and welcoming environment where participants can engage in various activities centred around verse. From writing challenges to a cosy book club atmosphere, each session is a chance to explore the beauty of language and share stories in a supportive community. With limited time but endless possibilities, join us at your local Poetry Hub for enriching conversations, inspiring challenges, and the joy of discovering the poet within.

Watercolour workshop

Every Wednesday, from 10am to 12 noon. All welcome.

Code club

Every Wednesday and Thursday during term time, from 4.15pm to 5.15pm.

Code club is now back after the summer break.

The Code Club is a fun activity for children aged 9 to15. The children will learn digital skills by using programming language through various projects, also, they will develop their creativity, logical thinking, collaboration and communication.

Please note: to accommodate Code Club all the public computers at Staines are booked out from 4pm onwards every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon during term time.

Knit and Natter crafting group

Alternate Wednesdays from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

New members of all levels are welcome. Please enquire at the library or pop along to our session.

Drop-in councillor surgeries

First Saturday of the month, 10.30am to 12.30pm with:

  • Jolyon Caplin (Staines South)
  • Tony Burrell (Staines South)

Last Saturday of the month, 11am to 1pm with Councillor Sinead Mooney (division Staines).

Digital Support Volunteer

Every Thursday 2pm to 4pm.

Do you want help using a computer, the internet, your iPad, tablet or iPhone, or other IT related problems?

Drop in or make an appointment to see our Digital Buddy.

Appointments are recommended if you have something specific you need help with. Appointments are 30 minutes each and can be booked in the library or by email: staines.library@surreycc.gov.uk
