Course intent
On this course you will broaden your knowledge & skills in patchwork and quilting. Learners will have the opportunity to develop and refine their patchwork and quilting knowledge according to their level. You’ll gain skill and confidence to develop interesting and creative quilts and projects using a variety of techniques and designs
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- Design Techniques: Learn how to sketch your ideas, understand design principles, and refine your concepts. You'll explore various styles and trends while also focusing on your personal aesthetic, by piecing by hand & machine.
- Material Knowledge: Gain insights into different materials used. Understanding different materials will allow you to make informed choices that suit your designs
- Craftsmanship: Develop your understanding of the tools and techniques required. This course will help you sharpen and perfect skills while learning new techniques LIKE English paper piecing & foundation piecing
- Production Process: Understand the process of turning a design into a physical object, including cutting, sewing, and finishing techniques
- Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
basic sewing equipment
Rotary cutting equipment and sewing machines belonging to the centre are available to use during the course. A ‘needs list’ will be sent out prior to the start of the courses which will include where to go to source fabric.

What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto Stage 3, specific one-day workshops or further Arts & Crafts courses at SAL.
