Course intent
You will develop the skills previously learned to improve your understanding of the processes whilst developing personal expression in your painting.
What will I learn?

- Design Techniques: Develop colour theory & colour mixing
- Material Knowledge: The correct use of materials & tools
- Craftsmanship: Develop your understanding of the particular techniques required, creating effective composition
- Production Process: Research other artists techniques & style
- Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
• A pen/pencil & Sketchbook
- Various Oil and acrylic paints
- Canvas, canvas board or canvas paper
- Brushes
- A palette & palette knife
- Low odour thinner for oils such as ‘Zest-it’ or ‘Sansodor’
Materials and resources you will need throughout the course will be discussed in the first session.
What can I do when I finish the course?
You can continue for a year learning at Stage 2, then move on to Stage 3. We also offer specific one-day workshops and a range of other courses at SAL.
