Course intent

Develop the skills to prepare and cook simple, healthy dishes, learn kitchen safety and hygiene, and improve your math skills along the way.

What will we cover?

During this course, you will:

Identify basic cooking methods and understand when to use them

Recognise common kitchen equipment and know what it is used for

Follow simple hygiene and safety rules when working with food and equipment and be aware of common risks

Use basic organisational skills to plan and make simple dishes using different cooking methods

Explore healthier food options and make better choices about ingredients and meals

Learn how to store food and drinks properly to keep them safe and fresh

Build confidence and social skills by taking part in group discussions

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for Entry Level learners with a learning disability, it is designed to help learners progress from their individual starting point to build confidence, independence, and social skills for everyday life.

You must be able use kitchen equipment with support and guidance and follow health and safety practices.

Please advise us of any allergy or specific dietary requirements so the tutor can suggest alternative ingredients

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need to bring with you; clean oven gloves, an apron, a tea towel and container to safely take your food home.

You need to wear suitable clothes and closed toe shoes.

Bring a pen and reading glasses if you use them.

What can I do when I finish the course?

After this course you could progress to another supported learning course, or further courses with 中国P站 Adult Learning. We will meet with you to give information, advice, and guidance on your next step.

Additional information

Bring a drink or money to buy refreshments during a short break.

Carers and/or family members supporting in the class will be required to follow our guidelines and acknowledge they have read our Personal Assistant Agreement.
