Course intent
Refine and broaden your patchwork, quilting and appliqué knowledge and skills on this inspiring course. Develop interesting and creative quilts and projects using a variety of techniques and designs. Learn patchwork, quilting and appliqué skills through instruction and hands-on experience.
What will I learn?
o Design Techniques: Explore traditional & modern patchwork, quilting & applique techniques
o Material Knowledge: Develop interesting designs & quilt projects
o Craftsmanship: Develop your understanding of the tools and techniques required. Share quilting experiences with you peers
o Production Process: Understand the process of turning a design into a physical object, including cutting, sewing, and finishing techniques
o Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
What do I need to bring:
- fabrics and threads to complete your individual projects and will need your own basic sewing equipment, eg pins, needles, scissors etc
- a notepad, pen and pencil
- Additional fabrics for testing and trailling techniques and machine stitches
Rotary cutting equipment and sewing machines belonging to the centre are available to use during the course.
A ‘needs list’ will be sent out prior to the start of the course which will include possible sources of fabrics.
What can I do when I finish the course?
Patchwork, quilting and appliqué courses will be offered throughout the year with this tutor to develop creativity and skills. Occasional Saturday classes and other Needlecraft classes will also be offered.
