Course intent
During this course, you will learn a range of styles & techniques in oil painting through the use of sketchbook, photographs, researched images or direct observation.
What will I learn?

- Design Techniques: Use tone, colour, composition & perspective
- Material Knowledge: Gain insights into building up an oil painting in layers
- Craftsmanship: Develop personal expression through practice, discussion and demonstrations
- Production Process: Learn about the materials used
- Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
• Oil materials you may already have purchased or a basic set of oil colours
- Low odour brush cleaner (Sansodar)
- Oil medium (linseed oil or liquin)
- A tear off palette
- Dipper for solvents
- 3 flat or filbert hogs hair brushes
- Plenty of tissues, rags or newspaper
- Oil sketching paper or a canvas or canvas board
- A pencil or pen and note pad or sketchbook
Additional materials will be discussed at the first session with advice on what to bring for the course.

What can I do when I finish the course?
Stage 3 – Suitable for learners on completion of level 2 who would like to progress and gain a solid understanding of their subject. The focus will be on mastering more intricate techniques and creating more complex, finished projects and on having work ready for display or submission for opportunities.
