Course intent
You will learn the basic knowledge and skills needed to make beautiful, seasonal designs that last. You will learn about flowers and an array of arranging techniques.
What will I learn?
You will learn to create a variety of simple seasonal flower arrangements and hand-tied designs in both contemporary and traditional styles.
- Design Techniques: Learn colour, form & structure
- Material Knowledge: designing for different occasions
- Craftsmanship: Develop your understanding of the techniques required, creating effective arrangements
- Production Process: Learn about the materials used
- Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 1 -This stage is for learners who are new to their chosen subject area. With the focus on introducing individuals to basic materials, tools, and techniques, and to inspire confidence in creative expression.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Equipment:
- Scissors
- bucket for flowers
- plastic sheet or cloth to work on
- small knife
- notebook and pen
Materials: A list of materials will be sent out prior to the start date. Each week you will be given guidance on suitable materials, flowers and foliage to bring and/or purchase for the following week.
You may wish to bring a camera/use the camera on your phone to record your work and we will be using your notebook to help you to remember what you have learned.
It is essential that you wear closed toe shoes (not sandals or flip flops) and bring an apron or wear old clothes.
What can I do when I finish the course?
You can continue for a year learning at Stage 1, then move on to Stage 2. We also offer specific one-day workshops.
