Clock Repair & Horology - Stage 2

Course intent

Continue your journey into the world of clocks and clock repairing. You will explore clocks, their mechanisms, and learn how to identify faults and issues. Then, you will carry out repairs using a variety of techniques, clean, and reassemble the clocks to restore them to working order.

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • Material Knowledge: Understand how a clock works, and the tools and materials required for repairs.
  • Craftsmanship: Learn how to clean, oil, and assemble a clock to restore it to working order.
  • Production Process: Gain knowledge of how to safely dismantle and reassemble a clock, along with typical repair procedures.
  • Workshop Practice: Develop hands-on skills in a classroom setting, practicing safe techniques and procedures for clock repair.

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    You need to bring:

  • A clock with a wind-up mechanism and pendulum
  • Plastic boxes with sealable lids to put parts in
  • Any tools you might have (screwdrivers, pliers, tweezers, small spanner(s) or an adjustable spanner etc.)
  • A notebook and pen
  • Closed toe shoes
  • An apron or wear old clothes

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto further Arts & Crafts courses at SAL.
