Watercolour Painting - Stage 2

Course intent

You will improve the knowledge and skills needed to develop and expand your range of techniques and design skills, gaining a deeper understanding of the medium of watercolour.

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • Design Techniques: Tutor demos giving learners ideas and specialist techniques
  • Material Knowledge: The contextual use of materials & tools
  • Craftsmanship: Develop your understanding of the traditional and modern techniques, using artists to inform and inspire
  • Production Process: Advanced compositional & perspective techniques
  • Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    For the first session bring:

  • whatever watercolour materials you may already have purchased
  • a pad of A4 cartridge paper,
  • soft grade of pencils (HB, 2B, and 4B),
  • soft rubber and sharpener
  • Paper: Watercolour paper - Bockingford 300 gsm or similar, A4 or A3 size.
  • Brushes: Synthetic or synthetic/hair mixtures, Round: 8 & 12 or larger and a dagger brush 1 inch plus a larger wash brush (Hake or 陆鈥 round Mop Brush)
  • Paints: Artist鈥檚 Quality in tubes or pans. Most are usually contained in a set
  • Large Watercolour palette for mixing paint
  • HB, 2B, 3B pencils
  • Tissues and/or cotton rags
  • Small notebook or sketchbook/ journal (suggested A4/A5).

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto longer courses or enrol on our other Arts and Crafts courses
