Course intent
This course is ideal for learners who have completed Stage 1 and are ready to take the next step in their jewellery-making journey. Whether you鈥檝e already mastered the fundamentals or have some experience under your belt, this course provides a unique opportunity to develop, refine, and elevate your jewellery design and manufacturing skills.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- Design Techniques: Learn how to sketch your ideas, understand design principles, and refine your concepts. You'll explore various styles and trends in jewellery design while also focusing on your personal aesthetic.
- Material Knowledge: Gain insights into different materials used in jewellery, including precious metals like silver, gemstones, beads, and enamel. Understanding these materials will allow you to make informed choices that suit your designs.
- Craftsmanship: Develop your understanding of the tools and techniques required for crafting jewellery. This course will help you sharpen and perfect the skills you've learned so far while learning new techniques.
- Production Process: Understand the process of turning a design into a physical object, including piercing, forming, and finishing techniques. You will also gain knowledge on how to ensure the durability and wearability of your creations.
- Workshop Practice: Understand the importance of a safe working environment and H&S requirements.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- A sketchbook and pen/pencil
- Copper is provided. However, learners will need to purchase any precious metals used for individual projects e.g. silver and gemstones
- Sensible, closed toe shoes
- An apron or wear old clothes

What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto Jewellery & Silverwork - Stage 3, Jewellery Workshops or further Arts & Crafts courses at SAL.
