Life & Portrait - Mixed Media Workshop

Course intent

Join in for a dynamic session of mixed media studies from a live model. Using dry and wet media, we will explore mark-making and abstraction with experimental approaches to expressive works inspired by the human figure

What will I learn?

• Different approaches to using line and shape

  • composition
  • How to use chalk / soft pastels in life drawing
  • How to use acrylic paint when working from a life model
  • How to create contrast when using colour
  • How to use different media in the same image
  • Abstraction and mark-making for expressive images of the human figure

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This is a mixed ability class, so all are welcome.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    · Pencil & rubber

  • · A3 or A2 paper - 160gsm and at least 200gsm · Chalk pastels set · Acrylic paint (white, black or burnt umber and primary colours) · Brushes

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    Learners can progress onto longer drawing or painting courses or explore further drawing and painting techniques through further Saturday workshops

    The tutor will be happy to assist learners wishing to build a portfolio of work for entry to Further Education or alternative courses of study with other providers.
